CASTE CENSUS 2025 : Cabinet approves Caste enumeration in the upcoming Census

Cabinet approves Caste enumeration in the upcoming Census

Posted On: 30 APR 2025  ( ਜਾਬਸ ਆਫ ਟੁਡੇ)

Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has decided to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census. This demonstrates that the present government is committed to the holistic interests and values of the nation and society.

As per Article 246 of the Constitution of India, Census is a union subject listed at 69 in the Union List in the Seventh Schedule. While some states have conducted surveys to enumerate castes, these surveys have varied in transparency and intent, with some conducted purely from a political angle, creating doubts in society. Considering all these circumstances, and to ensure that our social fabric does not come under political pressure, it has been decided that caste enumeration should be included in the main census instead of being conducted as a separate survey.

This will ensure that society becomes stronger economically and socially, and the country’s progress continues without hindrance. It is noteworthy that when a provision of 10 percent reservation was made for the economically weaker sections of society, it did not create tension in any section of society.

Caste was excluded from all census operations conducted since independence. In 2010, then Prime Minister Late Dr. Manmohan Singh assured the Lok Sabha that the matter of caste census would be considered in the Cabinet. A Group of Ministers was formed to deliberate on this subject, and most political parties recommended conducting a caste census. Despite this, the previous government opted for a survey instead of a caste census, known as the Socio-Economic and Caste Census  (SECC).

New Delhi, April 29, 2025: Mother Dairy has announced a revision in the prices of its liquid milk variants by up to ₹2 per litre, effective from April 30, 2025. "This price revision has been necessitated to address the surge in procurement costs, driven by the early onset of summer and heatwave conditions. We remain committed to ensuring consistent availability of quality milk while supporting our farmers. This revision represents only a partial pass-through of the increased costs, balancing the interests of both farmers and consumers."

Punjab Government Amends Rules for School Management Committees

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has announced amendments to the Punjab Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011, through a notification issued on April 26, 2025. These changes, officially titled the Punjab Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Rules, 2025, come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

The key amendment concerns the composition and functioning of the School Management Committee (SMC). Under the revised rules, the SMC will now consist of sixteen members. Twelve of these members will be parents or guardians of students enrolled in the concerned school, with a requirement that at least fifty percent of these parent members are women.

Other members of the committee will include the Principal, Headmaster, or Head Teacher of the school, or the senior-most teacher in their absence. A teacher employed at the school will also be a member. Additionally, an elected public representative of the area or their nominee will be part of the committee.

The rules also introduce the role of an education worker, defined as an individual preferably holding a graduation degree or more, but who has at least passed XII and is interested in the field of education.

Provisions are made for invitee members, such as a social worker operating in the vicinity. The School Management Committee may also invite individuals with special backgrounds in fields like education, health, sports, and industry as special invitee members through a resolution. However, invitee and special invitee members will not have voting rights and are not eligible to be elected as Chairperson or Vice Chairperson of the SMC.

The School Management Committee will elect a Chairperson from among the twelve parent members to manage its affairs. A Vice Chairperson will be elected from the fourteen non-official members of the committee. The Principal, Headmaster, or Head Teacher, or the senior-most teacher in their absence, will serve as the ex-officio Member-Secretary and Convener of the SMC.

Decisions within the School Management Committee are to be made through consensus and mutual discussion. If a consensus is not possible, decisions will be taken by majority votes. In the event of a tie, the Chairperson will have a casting vote.

The notification was signed by Anindita Mitra, Secretary to the Government of Punjab, Department of School Education.

Verka Milk Price Hike 2025: ₹2 Per Liter Increase in Punjab and Chandigarh

Chandigarh, April 29, 2025 – Verka, a leading dairy brand under the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (Milkfed), has announced an increase in milk prices effective from April 30, 2025. The price hike, which will affect consumers in Punjab and Chandigarh, comes as part of the company’s efforts to address rising operational costs while continuing to support dairy farmers.

According to a statement released by Verka, the price of milk will increase by ₹2 per liter across the region.

The new pricing structure will be implemented starting tomorrow, April 30, 2025. The announcement has sparked discussions among consumers, with many expressing concerns over the impact on household budgets, while others acknowledge the challenges faced by the dairy industry.

Details of the Price Hike

Verka, known for its popular milk variants such as Taaza (3% milk fat), has been a trusted name in Punjab’s dairy market for decades. The brand emphasized its commitment to maintaining quality and supporting farmers, stating, “Thank you for helping the farmer,” on its packaging, as highlighted in the social media post.

This price revision follows a trend of periodic adjustments by Verka to balance the interests of consumers and dairy farmers. The current hike of ₹2 per liter reflects the ongoing inflationary pressures and rising costs of production, including cattle feed and logistics.

Tragedy at Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver: Multiple Dead, Suspect in Custody

Published on April 27, 2025, by PB.JOBSOFTODAY.IN

Vancouver, Canada — A horrific tragedy struck the Filipino community in Vancouver on the evening of April 26, 2025, during the Lapu Lapu Day Festival. According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), a driver plowed into a large crowd at the street festival near E. 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.

What Happened at the Lapu Lapu Day Festival?

The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. local time on April 26, during the Lapu Lapu Day Festival, a significant celebration for the Filipino community in Vancouver. The Vancouver Police reported that a 30-year-old man from Vancouver drove into the crowd, causing chaos and devastation. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and the investigation is now being led by the VPD’s Major Crime Section.

Witnesses described a scene of horror, with festivalgoers scattered amidst toppled tents and chairs. Emergency responders were quick to arrive, performing CPR on victims and rushing the injured to nearby hospitals. Reports also mention a baby trapped under a vehicle, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Official Statements and Reactions

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed his deep sorrow, stating, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. We have confirmed a number of fatalities and multiple injuries.” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and other leaders, including Pierre Poilievre of the Conservative Party, also shared their condolences, emphasizing support for the Filipino community and gratitude for the swift response of first responders.

The VPD has urged anyone with information or video footage to contact them at 604-717-2500 as the investigation continues. Deputy Chief Steve Rai, when asked about the suspect’s criminal history, noted that it would be inappropriate to share such details at this stage, focusing instead on supporting the victims and their families.

Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation

The Lapu Lapu Day Festival, meant to be a joyful celebration of Filipino heritage with music, food, and laughter, turned into a day of mourning. Jen Idaba-Castaneto, a festival attendee, shared, “It was meant to be a day filled with music, food, laughter, and the honoring of our heritage. Instead, it turned into one of the most traumatizing days we will never forget.”

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities yet to determine whether the act was intentional or a result of reckless driving. Typically, the city uses dump trucks to block streets during festivals, but this measure was not in place on the day of the incident, raising questions about safety protocols.

Breaking News: Indian Government Issues Advisory on Media Coverage Amid Pahalgam Terror Attack

New Delhi, April 26, 2025 ( JOBSOFTODAY) – In the wake of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, has issued an advisory to all media channels.

Details of the Advisory

The advisory, issued under reference No. 41015/3/2024-BC-III, outlines several critical points:

  • National Security Concerns: Media outlets are advised to exercise restraint in reporting on defense and security operations, as real-time coverage could compromise operational effectiveness and inadvertently aid hostile elements.
  • No Real-Time Coverage: The advisory explicitly prohibits the dissemination of live visuals or sensitive information that could endanger the safety of personnel or assist adversaries, referencing past incidents like the Kargil War and the Mumbai terror attacks, where unrestricted media coverage had adverse consequences.
  • Legal Framework: It cites Rule 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, which mandates that no live coverage of anti-terrorist operations by security forces should occur without periodic briefings from designated government officers.
  • Shared Responsibility: The advisory emphasizes the media’s moral obligation to safeguard national security, urging all stakeholders to remain vigilant and responsible in their reporting.

Why This Advisory? The Pahalgam Terrorist Incident

The advisory comes in direct response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, where five militants, linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and its offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF), opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran Valley meadow. The attack, the deadliest in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, specifically targeted male Hindu tourists, killing 26 and injuring over 20.

The militants reportedly segregated victims by religion, asking them to recite Islamic verses and checking for circumcision before executing them at close range. This calculated assault aimed to resist alleged demographic changes in the Kashmir Valley, according to TRF’s claims, though the group later denied involvement, raising questions about the true orchestrators.

The incident has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with India suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border, and expelling Pakistani diplomats. Pakistan’s unprovoked firing across the Line of Control on April 25-26 further escalated the situation. Amid ongoing security operations to track down the militants, who fled into the Pir Panjal range, the government fears that live media coverage could expose troop movements, hinder counter-terrorism efforts, and potentially lead to more casualties.

A Call for Responsible Reporting

Signed by Deputy Director Kashiti Aggarwal, the advisory calls on media platforms, regulatory bodies, and TV channels to comply with these guidelines. As India grapples with the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack and its geopolitical ramifications, the government seeks to balance media freedom with the imperative to protect national interests.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
