Punjab Government Orders Deep Cleansing and Sanitation of Rural Schools After Floods
Chandigarh, September 6, 2025: The Punjab Government has directed Panchayats to assist schools situated in rural areas with deep cleansing and sanitation work after the recent heavy floods. The Department of School Education had earlier declared holidays in all government and private schools from August 27 to September 7, 2025, due to flood-related damage.
According to an official communication issued by Administrative Secretary Anindita Mitra, IAS, the government is planning to reopen schools from Monday, September 8, 2025. However, the final decision on reopening has been left to the respective Deputy Commissioners, keeping in view the extent of damage in different districts.

The letter highlights that many schools have suffered damage to infrastructure and require urgent sanitation before students can safely resume classes. While some funds have been allocated by the Department of School Education, additional support in terms of manpower and equipment is expected from Panchayats.
“The need for deep cleansing and sanitation of affected school premises cannot be over emphasized. Panchayats must collaborate with schools in their villages to ensure timely resumption of studies,” the letter stated.
The directive was addressed to Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Secretary, Department of Rural Development & Panchayats, asking him to issue immediate instructions to all concerned authorities.
The Punjab Government hopes that these measures will help restore normal functioning of schools at the earliest and enable students to return to their studies without further delay.

ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ, 6 ਸਤੰਬਰ 2025 ( ਜਾਬਸ ਆਫ ਟੁਡੇ) ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਭਾਰੀ ਸਿਲਾਬ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਫੀ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ 27 ਅਗਸਤ ਤੋਂ 7 ਸਤੰਬਰ ਤੱਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਛੁੱਟੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਘਟਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੇ 8 ਸਤੰਬਰ ਤੋਂ ਸਕੂਲ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਕੂਲ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਕਰਣਗੇ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੀ ਡੀਪ ਕਲੀਨਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਨਿਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਕਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਜਲਦੀ ਮੁੜ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਧਾਰਣ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਜ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਪਟੜੀ 'ਤੇ ਆਵੇਗਾ।
