  3. Explain why
    • (i) Be has higher ΔHi than B
    • (ii) O has lower ΔHi than N and F.
  4. Write down resonating structure of CO₃²⁻ and SO₃²⁻.
  5. Differentiate between Emission spectrum and Absorption spectrum.
  6. What is the concentration of sugar C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ in mole L⁻¹ if its 20 g are dissolved in enough water to make a volume upto 2 L?
  7. Differentiate orbit and orbital.
  8. The mass of an electron is 9.1 x 10⁻³¹ Kg. If its kinetic energy is 3.0 x 10⁻²⁵J. Calculate its wavelength.

  1. (a) What is hybridisation? Explain the structure of Ethene on the basis of hybridisation.
    (b) Write the electronic configuration of the following ions:

  1. (a) Determine the empirical formula of an oxide of iron which has 69.9% iron and 30.1% dioxygen by mass. (Atomic mass: Fe = 58.5 μ = 16 μ).
    (b) A solution is prepared by dissolving 2 g of substance A in 18 g of water. Calculate the mass percentage of solute.
  2. Explain why cations are smaller and anions larger in radii than their parent atoms.
    (i) Boron forms [BF₄]⁻ while aluminium forms AlF₆³⁻ in solution.
    (ii) Lithium halides are covalent while halides of other members of group 1 are ionic in nature.

    (b) If the density of methanol is 0.793 Kg L⁻¹ what is the volume needed for making 2.5 L of its 0.25 M solution?
