BSF Constable Repatriated from Pakistan at Attari-Wagah Border
Attari, May 14, 2025: ( Jobsoftoday )In a significant development, Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw of the Border Security Force (BSF) was successfully repatriated from Pakistan on Wednesday, May 14, at 10:30 hrs. The handover took place at the Joint Check Post (JCP) Attari-Wagah border, marking the end of a tense 21-day ordeal for the jawan and his family.
Constable Shaw had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory on April 23, 2025, around 11:50 hrs, while on operational duty in the Ferozepur sector along the Indo-Pak border. He was detained by Pakistan Rangers shortly after. The incident occurred amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which had stalled diplomatic channels and delayed his return.
The BSF, through persistent efforts, engaged in regular flag meetings with the Pakistan Rangers and utilized other communication channels to secure Shaw’s release. A senior BSF official highlighted that under normal circumstances, such repatriations occur within a day or two, but the strained bilateral relations had complicated the process. Shaw’s wife, who hails from West Bengal, had traveled to Punjab to follow up on her husband’s case with the BSF Western Command.
The Ferozepur sector, part of Punjab’s 532-km border with Pakistan, has been on high alert due to recent security concerns, including a Pakistani intruder being neutralized by the BSF on May 8. The BSF continues to guard the sensitive Indo-Pak border, tackling challenges like infiltration and smuggling, having recovered 294 drones and 280 kg of heroin in 2024 alone.
The BSF expressed gratitude for the coordinated efforts that ensured Constable Shaw’s safe return, underscoring their commitment to protecting India’s borders and personnel.

ਅਟਾਰੀ, 14 ਮਈ 2025 ( ਜਾਬਸ ਆਫ ਟੁਡੇ) : ਇੱਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ, ਬਾਰਡਰ ਸਕਿਓਰਿਟੀ ਫੋਰਸ (ਬੀਐਸਐਫ) ਦੇ ਕਾਂਸਟੇਬਲ ਪੂਰਨਮ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਸ਼ਾਅ ਨੂੰ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਰ, 14 ਮਈ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੇਰੇ 10:30 ਵਜੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਸੌਂਪਣ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਅਟਾਰੀ-ਵਾਹਗਾ ਸਰਹੱਦ 'ਤੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਚੈੱਕ ਪੋਸਟ (ਜੇਸੀਪੀ) 'ਤੇ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਜਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀ 21 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਣਾਅਪੂਰਨ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਕਾਂਸਟੇਬਲ ਸ਼ਾਅ 23 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 2025 ਨੂੰ ਲਗਭਗ 11:50 ਵਜੇ ਭਾਰਤ-ਪਾਕ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਦੇ ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਸੈਕਟਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਡਿਊਟੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਣਜਾਣੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਰੇਂਜਰਜ਼ ਨੇ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਘਟਨਾ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਵਧੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਣਾਅ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਾਪਰੀ, ਜੋ 22 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਲਗਾਮ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਹਮਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਬੀਐਸਐਫ/ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਰੇਂਜਰਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਝੰਡਾ ਮੀਟਿੰਗਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਚੈਨਲਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸ਼ਾਅ ਦੀ ਰਿਹਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ।
