Major Rally in Chandigarh Disrupts Traffic: FIR Lodged Against Organizers
Chandigarh, September 6, 2024 – In a significant development, an FIR was registered at Maloya Police Station against the organizers of a rally that disrupted traffic in Chandigarh. The incident took place near Ziri Mandi Chowk, where a group of retired Punjab police officials and pensioners associated with the *Sanjha Front* staged a protest.
According to the police report, the rally was not authorized and violated the district magistrate’s order dated August 28, 2024. The rally leaders, including prominent figures like Jarman Jit Singh, Ranjit Ranaya, and others, blocked the Ziri Mandi roundabout, causing massive traffic jams and inconvenience to commuters.
The First Information Report (FIR No. 0071) was lodged under sections 223(a) and 285 of the *Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023*. It was filed after the rally participants, despite being advised about the appropriate route, decided to proceed unlawfully through different parts of Chandigarh.
ASI Mangat Singh, the complainant, stated that the rally organizers led their supporters into the city without proper permissions, resulting in serious disruption. The accused individuals, numbering 18, have been charged with obstructing public pathways and defying official orders.
The FIR mentions that despite repeated instructions, the rally leaders failed to comply, leading to an illegal road blockade. The protest not only caused major traffic issues but also raised concerns about public safety and law and order in the city.
Authorities have indicated that legal action will be pursued against those involved in the unauthorized rally. The police are investigating the matter further and have urged the public to cooperate to ensure peace and order.
