Punjab Government Warns Officials Against Using Unofficial Email IDs

The Government of Punjab has issued a warning to all government officials at various levels not to use unofficial email IDs for sending or receiving official communications. The warning was issued in a letter from the Directorate of Governance Reforms & Public Grievances (DGR&PG) to the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries & Administrative Secretaries to the Government of Punjab.
The letter states that the use of unofficial email IDs poses a significant risk to the security of sensitive government information. The DGR&PG has requested that all heads of departments, commissioners of divisions, deputy commissioners, district and sessions judges, and other officials ensure that only official email IDs (@punjab.gov.in or @nic.in domains) are used for official communication.
The letter also states that officials who have not yet created their official email IDs should do so immediately.
Why is the Punjab Government Issuing This Warning?
The Punjab Government is likely issuing this warning in response to concerns about the security of government data. Unofficial email IDs may be more vulnerable to hacking than official email IDs, which are typically protected by government security measures.

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਪੱਧਰਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਫਿਸਿਅਲ ਕਮਿਊਨੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਭੇਜਣ ਜਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਣਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਈਮੇਲ ਆਈਡੀ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨਿਕ ਸੁਧਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟੋਰੇਟ (ਡੀਜੀਆਰ ਐਂਡ ਪੀਜੀ) ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਕੱਤਰ, ਵਧੀਕ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਕੱਤਰਾਂ, ਵਿੱਤੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਕੱਤਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨਿਕ ਸਕੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖੇ ਪੱਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਪੱਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਣਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਈਮੇਲ ਆਈਡੀ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਖਤਰਾ ਹੈ। ਡੀਜੀਆਰ ਐਂਡ ਪੀਜੀ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ, ਡਿਵੀਜ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰਾਂ, ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰਾਂ, ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਜੱਜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਕਮਿਊਨੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਈਮੇਲ ਆਈਡੀ (@punjab.gov.in ਜਾਂ @nic.in ਡੋਮੇਨ) ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ। .
ਪੱਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਈਮੇਲ ਆਈਡੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਨ। ਈਮੇਲ ਆਈਡੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ 0172-2998902 'ਤੇ ਹੈਲਪਡੈਸਕ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਸੰਭਾਵਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਡੇਟਾ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਚਿੰਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਗੈਰ-ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਈਮੇਲ ਆਈਡੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਈਮੇਲ ਆਈਡੀਜ਼ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਹੈਕਿੰਗ ਲਈ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਉਪਾਵਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
