ECI transfers non-IAS/IPS officers holding DM/SP posts in four states

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has transferred non-cadre District Magistrates ( DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in four states to ensure a level playing field for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.

The ECI took this decision after a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar. The transferred officers are from Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha and West Bengal.

The ECI has also directed the transfer of SSP Bathinda in Punjab and SP Sonitpur in Assam due to their kinship with prominent politicians.

The ECI has instructed the respective state governments to transfer these officers with immediate effect and submit a compliance report.

This move by the ECI is aimed at ensuring that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.

Here is a list of the officers who have been transferred:

  • Gujarat: SP of Chhota Udaipur and Ahmedabad Rural districts
  • Punjab: SSP of Pathankot, Fazilka, Jalandhar Rural and Malerkotla districts
  • Odisha: DM of Dhenkanal and SPs of Deogarh and Cuttack Rural districts
  • West Bengal: DM of Purba Medinipur, Jhargram, Purba Bardhaman and Birbhum districts

In addition to the above, SSP Bathinda in Punjab and SP Sonitpur in Assam have also been transferred.
