Education Department holds Virtual Training Session to sesnsitise District Education Officers about " Punjab Career Portal"

Adding another feather to its cap, Punjab Education Department, is going to launch " Punjab Career Portal" , aimed at doing hand holding of students in selecting their career path, the most confusing decision in a student’s life.
Prior to launching " Punjab Career Portal", as part of "Capacity Building Programme" of officials and teachers, the education Department has started conductuing virtual training sessions. To begin with, a virtual training session to sensitise District Education Officers and Deputy District Education Officers was held on Saturday. the Education Secretary, Krishan Kumar, presided over. In his inaugural address, he said that the education department had been working out the modalities for helping the students to make the right career choices.
"The portal will prove of great help to the students as well as teachers. It would further strengthen the department's inititaives to improve the quality of education in government schools", said the Education Secretary, while exhorting the officials and teachers to make the optimum utilisation of the training sessions to build capacity to assist students in accessing the portal.
During the virtual training session, the experts , including, Ankit Bansal (Aasman Foundation) , Lalita Sachdeva( Yuwaah, UNICEF), Tript Kaur, Programme Officer, YuWaah for Punjab, UNICEF, sensitised the officials of the Education Department about the various modules of the " Punjab Career Portal" and gave valuable tips to ensure optimal use of the portal to help students to have an access to the educational and career options for enabling them to shape their future.
The portal will have information about a minimum of 450 career options, 21,000 colleges and vocational institutes within the country and abroad, 1,150 entrance exams and 1,200 scholarships. Special focus will be given on integrating the curriculum with life skills. It would enable more than 8.50 lakh students belonging to Class IX to XII studying in government schools to successfully move up from school to higher education and to work. Each student would be given a unique id for accessing the content on the website available in different languages. The project is being supported by UNICEF, NGO Aasman Foundfation and Tata Power. The web portal would help students make informed decisions. The portal will have comprehensive information for students about career choices, entrance examination for different colleges\universities, vocational institutes and scholarships. For those interested to move abroad for higher education, the portal will help in finding the eligibility of colleges in different countries, scholarships and fellowships.
