ਦੁੱਧ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਬਾਪੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੜਵੀ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਹੱਥ ਧੋ ਲਏ, ਨੱਥੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਧੋਣ ਲਈ ਸਿਹਾ। ਉਹ ਬੈਦੇ ਗਲਾਸ ਚੌਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ਤੇ ਚੌਂਕੇ 'ਚ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਮਾਂਜਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਰੱਖਣ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪਰਤ ਆਇਆ। ਉਹ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਿੰਟ ਵੀ ਭਾਰੂ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। "ਲੈ ਹੁਣ ਮਨ-ਚਿੱਤ ਇਕਾਗਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੁਣ।" ਬਾਪੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ, ਕੁਝ ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਖੋ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਗਜ਼ ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੋਥੀ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਆਸਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ਸੀ। ਉੱਧਰ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਬੋਲੇ, "ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਮਤੋ, ਮੈਂ ਜੈਤੋ ਦੇ ਮੋਰਚੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਡੇ ਹੋਏ ਐ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੋਰਚੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਾਲ ਦਰਜ ਐ। ਤੂੰ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਮਤਿਹਾਨ ਦੇ ਲਏਂਗਾ, ਫੇਰ ਇਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲਈ। ਫਿਲਹਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਅੱਜ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਸੁਣਾ ਦਿਨੇਂ ।" ਕੁਝ ਰੁਕ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੱਦਰ ਦੇ ਪਰਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੰਝ ਮੂੰਹ ਪੂੰਝਿਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਵਾਰਤਾ ਸੁਣਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋਣ। ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਗੱਲ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਬੜੇ ਨਰਮੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਾਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ। "ਜੈਤੋ ਦਾ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਕੋਈ ਦੋ ਸਾਲ ਚਲਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਅਗਸਤ 1923 ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੰਗਸਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ, ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਖਤਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਖੰਡਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਉਹਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੋਸ਼ ਤੇ ਜੋਸ਼ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਨੇ ਪੁਰਅਮਨ ਸਤਿਆਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇੱਕ ਸਤੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਚੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੱਥਾ ਜੈਤੋਂ ਪਾਠ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਵੀ ਆਇਆ ਪਰ ਮੋਰਚੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪੱਚੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਜੱਥਾ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ 15 ਸਤੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਜੈਤੋਂ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਪੰਜ ਛੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਪੱਚੀ-ਪੱਚੀ ਦੇ ਜੱਥੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ।" ਜਿਹੜੇ ਇਹ ਪੰਚੀ-ਪੱਚੀ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੱਥੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੜੇ ਤਸੀਹੇ ਝੱਲੇ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੈਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੈਦ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਨਰਕ-ਕੁੰਡ ਵਰਗੀ ਸੀ। ਉੱਥੇ ਕਈ ਵਾਰੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਪਿਆ-ਇਹਦੀ ਵਾਰਤਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਐ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਪੱਚੀ-ਪੱਚੀ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਜੱਥੇ 'ਕਠੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਉਦੋਂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਡੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁੜ ਕੇ ਬਾਵਲਕਾਂਟੀ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਇੱਥੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੂਰ ਐ-ਓਪਰ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ। ਓਥੇ ਰਿਆਸਤ ਨਾਭਾ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਐ, ਹੁਣ ਵੀ, ਪਰ ਹੈ ਰਿਆਸਤ ਦੀ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਹੱਦ ਈ। ਤਿੰਨ ਜਥੇ 'ਕਠੇ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਈ' ਪਹਿਲੇ ਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਜਥੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਈ-ਕਈ ਹਫਤੇ ਜੈਤੋ ਦੇ ਓਸ ਨਰਕ-ਕੁੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਸੀਹੇ ਝੱਲਣੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਸੀ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪੰਜ ਸੌ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਜਥੇ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਣੇਂ ਉਹ 9 ਫਰਵਰੀ 1924 ਨੂੰ, ਜੱਥੇਦਾਰ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਗੋਕੇ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰੋਂ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਈ ਗਿਰਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ। ਓਸ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਜਥੇ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੇ ਸ. ਜਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ 'ਮੀਤ' ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਪੀ ਗਈ।

Read the Passage and answers questions 69 to 75 There are two ways in which 'nonasserters' manage a conflict. Sometimes they ignore their needs. Faced with a constantly barking dog, for instance, a nonassertive person would try to forget the barking by closing the windows and trying to concentrate even harder. Another form of denial would be to claim that no problem exists-that a little barking never bothered anyone. To the degree that it's possible to make problems disappear by ignoring them, such an approach is probably advisable. In many cases, however, it simply isn't realistic to claim that nothing is wrong. For instance, if your health is being jeopardized by the cigarette smoke from someone nearby, you are clearly punishing yourself by remaining silent. If you need to learn more information from a supervisor before undertaking a project, you reduce the quality of your work by pretending that you understand it at all. If you claim that an unsatisfactory repair job is acceptable, you are paying good money for nothing. In all these and many more cases simply pretending that nothing is the matter when your needs continue to go unmet is clearly not the answer. A second nonassertive course of action is to acknowledge your needs are not being met but simply to accept the situation, hoping that it might clear up without any action on your part. You could, for instance, wait for the neighbour who owns the barking dog to move. You could wait for the dog to be run over by passing car or to die of old age. You could hope that your neighbour will realize how noisy the dog is and do something to keep it quiet. Each of these occurrences is a possibility, of course, but it would be unrealistic to count on one of them to solve your problem. And even if by chance you were lucky enough for the dog problem to solve without taking action, you couldn't expect to be so fortunate in other parts of your life. In addition, while waiting for one of these eventualities, you would undoubtedly grow more and more angry at your neighbour, making a friendly relationship between the two of you impossible. You would also lose a degree of self-respect, since you would see yourself as the kind of person who can't cope with even a common everyday irritation.
