The initial engagement is on a contract basis for a period of one year.
⚖️ Scope of Work: Serving Justice
The LADCS office focuses exclusively on legal aided matters in criminal cases. This system ensures that every individual receives competent legal representation, from the earliest stages of the criminal justice system through the appellate stage. It includes providing legal services to unrepresented inmates through regular jail visits.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Representation and conducting trials, appeals, and all miscellaneous work in all criminal courts (Sessions, Special, and Magistrate Courts).
- Handling Remand and Bail work efficiently.
- Providing legal assistance at the pre-arrest stage, as needed.
- Conducting periodic visits to prisons of the district.
✅ Eligibility Criteria: Do You Qualify?
1. Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel
- Practice in Criminal Law for at least **7 years**.
- Must have handled at least **10 criminal trials in Sessions Court**.
- Excellent understanding of criminal law, strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal research and IT knowledge.
2. Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel
- Practice in Criminal Law from **0 to 3 years**.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent writing and research skills.
- IT knowledge with high proficiency in work.
🌟 Work Profile Highlights
Deputy Chief Counsel Duties:
- Filing and arguing appeals and bail applications.
- Maintaining complete case files and guiding Assistant Counsels in legal research.
- Proper client interviews for quality representation at all stages.
Assistant Counsel Duties:
- Assisting in developing a defense strategy after sifting through prosecution evidence.
- Visiting crime locations and having discussions with family members for effective input.
- Handling queries and updating legal aid seekers about case progress.
