Punjab Samiti and Zila Parishad Elections: Punjab Government assures High Court to hold elections before December 5

Chandigarh, Oct 27 ( Jobsoftoday) – A major update has come regarding the Punjab Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections. The Punjab Government has informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that elections for more than 150 Panchayat Samitis and 21 Zila Parishads in the state will be conducted before December 5, 2025.

This assurance was given by the state government during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Beant Kumar, who had demanded early elections for these local bodies, whose tenure had already expired.

Earlier, the High Court had issued a notice to the Punjab Government, asking for a clear timeline on when the elections would be held. Following the court’s directive, the state government has now assured that the poll process will be completed within the specified time frame.

According to sources, the State Election Commission has already started preparations, and the official election schedule is expected to be announced soon.

Political analysts believe that these elections could play a crucial role in shaping the rural political landscape ahead of the next Assembly elections in Punjab.

In the coming weeks, the government is expected to submit a detailed plan to the court outlining the steps being taken to ensure free and fair elections across the state.
