Punjab Finance Department Issues Clarification on 6th Pay Commission Payments to Pensioners

Chandigarh, June 9, 2025 – The Punjab Finance Department has issued new instructions regarding the disbursement of the 6th Punjab Pay Commission payments to state pensioners, aiming to clarify and streamline the process.

The directive, issued by the Department of Finance (Finance Pension Policy and Coordination Branch), refers to earlier instructions no. FD-FP-206 (PYFG) /3/2020-1FP 2/15 dated July 10, 2024, issued by the Department of Finance. These prior instructions clarified that employees who completed 12 months of qualifying service on their retirement date were eligible for one notional annual increment upon retirement.

As per these instructions, the arrears were to be paid to the petitioners from the date of filing the petition and to the non-petitioners from the date of issuance of the instructions dated July 10, 2024.

In accordance with the Finance Department's instructions dated July 10, 2024, all departments are now requested to ensure that the date from which the actual benefit of revised pension or pensionary benefits is admissible should be clearly mentioned in each case before submitting it to the Accountant General Punjab, for pension revision.

Copies of this instruction have been forwarded to various authorities to ensure proper implementation, including:

  • The Accountant General, Punjab, with a request to ensure that the date from which the actual benefit of revised pension/pensionary benefit is admissible is clearly mentioned while issuing the revised PPO.
  • The Director Treasury and Accounts, to send a copy of this instruction to all Pension Disbursing Banks.
  • The Private Secretary/Chief Secretary, Government of Punjab, for information and necessary action.
  • All the District Treasury Officers/Treasury Officers in the State for information and necessary action.

The communication is addressed to key government officials, including all Special Chief Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaries, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries & Administrative Secretaries to Government of Punjab , all Heads of the Departments of the State , all Commissioners of Divisions , the Registrar, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh , all Deputy Commissioners & District & Session Judges , and the Secretary, Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
