Punjab Schools to Close for Two Days Amidst Prevailing Circumstances

CHANDIGARH – May 8, 2025

All government and private schools across Punjab will remain closed on May 9th and 10th, 2025, according to an order issued by the state's Department of School Education.

The decision to close schools for the two-day period has been taken in view of "prevailing circumstances," the order stated. These precautionary measures are being implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of both students and staff members.

The directive, issued with the approval of the Competent Authority, was communicated by the Joint Secretary of the Department of School Education on May 8th, 2025. The order is to be treated as most urgent.

Endorsement copies of the order have been circulated to various key officials, including the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Education Minister, Secretary School Education, Director General School Education, all District Magistrates in the State, Director of Elementary Education, Director of Secondary Education, and the Secretary of the Punjab School Education Board, Mohali.
