India Launches Operation Sindoor: Airstrikes Target Terror Camps in Pakistan and PoJK
**New Delhi, May 7, 2025 ( ਜਾਬਸ ਆਫ ਟੁਡੇ) – In a decisive response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives on April 22, the Indian Armed Forces launched *Operation Sindoor* in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting nine terrorist facilities across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation, described by the Indian government as "focused, measured, and non-escalatory," aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure responsible for orchestrating attacks against India while deliberately avoiding Pakistani military facilities.
At a press briefing held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi today, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, alongside Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force, provided detailed insights into the operation.
The briefing, broadcast live by All India Radio News, included a short video presentation highlighting Pakistan’s continued support for terrorism against India, reinforcing India’s stance on its "unflinching" national policy against terrorism.
The operation comes in the wake of heightened tensions following the Pahalgam attack, which targeted civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian defense officials confirmed that all air defense units along the India-Pakistan border have been activated to tackle any potential retaliation. Visuals from South Block, housing the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of External Affairs, showed increased security measures, including the movement of vans and vehicles with sirens.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval also briefed his US counterpart, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on the operation, emphasizing India’s commitment to countering terrorism while maintaining regional stability. The Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., released a statement confirming the communication.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria (Retd) lauded the Indian Armed Forces for their swift and effective action. Bhadauria noted, "Operation Sindoor sends a clear message that India will not tolerate terrorism on its soil."
The Ministry of Defence has scheduled further updates on the operation, with the Indian Army continuing to monitor the situation closely along the border. As tensions simmer, the international community watches closely, with calls for de-escalation echoing from global powers.
