Fake Letter Claiming Imran Khan’s Death Goes Viral on WhatsApp in India

ਅੱਜ 10 ਮਈ 2025 ਨੂੰ, ਇੱਕ ਜਾਅਲੀ ਪੱਤਰ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਇਮਰਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਟਸਐਪ 'ਤੇ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਇਰਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਪੱਤਰ, ਜੋ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇਮਰਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਦੀ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੱਸਮਈ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਪੱਤਰ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਇਆ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ 'ਤੇ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ "X" ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਜਾਅਲੀ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਸੀ। ਐਕਸ 'ਤੇ ਫੈਕਟ-ਚੈਕਰ ਮੁਹੰਮਦ ਜ਼ੁਬੈਰ (@zoo_bear) ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਇਹ ਇਮਰਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਜਾਅਲੀ ਪੱਤਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਟਸਐਪ 'ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਾਇਰਲ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।" ਯੂਜ਼ਰਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਇਮਰਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਿਰਫ ਇੱਕ ਅਫਵਾਹ ਹੈ।

The Fake Letter and Its Spread
On May 10, 2025, a letter bearing the letterhead of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs began circulating on WhatsApp groups in India. The document, dated the same day, claimed that Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had passed away under mysterious circumstances while in custody. It expressed “deep regret” over the incident and called for unity and stability in the region.
