HEAT WAVE ORANGE ALERT: ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ 46 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ, ਓਰੇਂਜ ਅਲਰਟ ਜਾਰੀ

Heatwave grips Punjab, orange alert issued in several districts

A heatwave is gripping the Indian state of Punjab, with temperatures expected to soar above 47 degrees Celsius (116 degrees Fahrenheit) in some areas in the coming days. The orange alert has been issued in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Bathinda, Mansa and Moga districts, warning residents of the dangers of extreme heat. A yellow alert has been issued for the rest of the state.

The heatwave is being attributed to the El Nino weather phenomenon, which has ended but is still having an impact on global temperatures. The Punjab Meteorological Department has warned that there is no respite from the heat in sight for the next few days.

The highest temperature recorded in Punjab so far this season was 46.3 degrees Celsius (115.3 degrees Fahrenheit) in Samrala, located in Ludhiana district. Other parts of the state have also seen scorching temperatures, with Pathankot recording a high of 45.1 degrees Celsius (113.2 degrees Fahrenheit).

The heatwave has led to concerns about the health of residents, particularly those who are vulnerable to extreme heat, such as young children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions. The Punjab Health Department has advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and wear loose, light-colored clothing.
