Punjab Assembly Session: Pratap Singh Bajwa Demands Immediate Clearance of Employee Arrears

During the special session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly convened today, May 1, 2026, Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition, Pratap Singh Bajwa, launched a scathing demand for the immediate release of pending financial dues for state government employees.

Major Proposal: Bajwa suggested that the salaries of the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, all MLAs, and high-ranking officials (including IAS and IPS cadres) should be halted until the long-standing Dearness Allowance (DA) installments for workers are fully cleared.

Key Issues Raised in the House:

• Plight of 7.5 Lakh Workers: Bajwa highlighted that approximately 7.5 lakh individuals, including active government employees, pensioners, and corporation workers, are struggling due to withheld arrears.
• Judicial Directions: He noted that various employee unions have already approached the courts, resulting in specific directions to the Punjab Government to settle the outstanding payments.
• A Question of Trust: Reminding the ruling Aam Aadmi Party of their electoral journey, Bajwa stated that the employee base was instrumental in their victory and now feels neglected.

Call for Results

Bajwa urged the Chief Minister to ensure that this special session does not end without a definitive statement or action plan. He emphasized that the "special" nature of the session would only be justified if it provided concrete relief to the state’s workforce, whom he described as the backbone of the administration.

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਅੱਜ 1 ਮਈ 2026 ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਗਏ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਆਗੂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਧਿਰ ਦੇ ਨੇਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਜਵਾ ਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਹੱਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ-ਸ਼ੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਠਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੁਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਬਕਾਏ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਵੱਡੀ ਤਜਵੀਜ਼: ਬਾਜਵਾ ਨੇ ਸੁਝਾਅ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਦੇਰ ਤੱਕ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਡੀ.ਏ. (DA) ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਸ਼ਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਕਾਏ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ, ਉਨੀ ਦੇਰ ਤੱਕ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ, ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਧਾਇਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ (IAS ਅਤੇ IPS) ਦੀਆਂ ਤਨਖਾਹਾਂ ਰੋਕ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਣੀਆਂ ਚਾਹੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਠਾਏ ਗਏ ਮੁੱਖ ਨੁਕਤੇ:

• 7.5 ਲੱਖ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਵਿੱਖ: ਬਾਜਵਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ 7.5 ਲੱਖ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮ, ਪੈਨਸ਼ਨਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਰਕਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਕੀ ਬਕਾਇਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
• ਅਦਾਲਤੀ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼: ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਅਦਾਲਤਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਦਾਲਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਬਕਾਏ ਅਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
• ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ: ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਗਏ ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਫਾਇਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੇਕਰ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਠੋਸ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਨਿਕਲੇ।

ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ

ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਜਵਾ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਅੱਜ ਸਦਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਬਿਆਨ ਦੇਣ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਫਰਜ਼ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਮੀਦਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਖਰੀ ਉਤਰੇ।
