Punjab Government Greenlights Monthly Cash Aid for Women: Registration Starts April 13

In a landmark decision aimed at female empowerment, the Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on March 29, has officially approved the 'Mukhyamantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana.' The scheme is set to provide direct financial assistance to millions of women across the state starting this April .
Key Financial Benefits:
- General Category Women: ₹1,000 per month.
- SC Category Women: ₹1,500 per month.
- Eligibility: Women aged 18 years and above.
During the meeting held at the Chief Minister's residence, it was clarified that the registration process for this scheme will begin on April 13, coinciding with the festival of Baisakhi. With an annual budget of ₹9,300 crore, the initiative is expected to cover approximately 97% of the state's female population, with funds being transferred directly into bank accounts.
Major Decisions Beyond Welfare
The Cabinet meeting wasn't just about financial aid; several other key agendas received the green light to boost employment and infrastructure:
- Job Creation: Approval was granted for the recruitment of 140 personnel in the Planning Department. Additionally, technical staff will be hired for the Punjab-owned Pachhwara Central Coal Mine located in Jharkhand.
- Industrial Reform: In a move to boost ease of doing business, the process to convert industrial plots from leasehold to freehold has been simplified. Notably, owners of plots mortgaged with banks can now also opt for freehold conversion after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
- Flood Prevention: The government approved desilting operations for the Satluj River. This project aims to improve river flow and significantly reduce the risk of flooding in nearby regions.
