HMPV Virus Cases Detected in India, Advisory Issued by Central Government
New Delhi 6 January 2025 ( PBJOBSOFTODAY) India has reported six cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a virus similar to COVID-19, spreading in China. On Monday, a two-month-old child from Rajasthan, undergoing treatment in Ahmedabad, tested positive for HMPV.
Earlier, two cases were reported from Karnataka, affecting an 8-month-old and a 3-month-old. The samples were analyzed in a Bengaluru hospital. In West Bengal, a 5-month-old child showed symptoms, and the treatment is ongoing in a private hospital. Two cases have also emerged in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, but detailed information is awaited.

Do's:
- Cover your mouth and nose with tissues while sneezing or coughing.
- Wash hands regularly with soap, water, or alcohol-based sanitizers.
- Avoid crowded places.
- Stay away from public areas if experiencing fever, cough, or sneezing.
- Ensure rooms are ventilated to reduce infections.
- Stay home if unwell and avoid contact with others.
- Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food.
Don'ts:
- Avoid reusing tissue paper.
- Do not come in close contact with infected individuals or use shared items like towels.
- Refrain from touching eyes, nose, and mouth repeatedly.
- Avoid spitting in public places.
- Do not self-medicate without consulting a doctor.
As cases rise, the government emphasizes strict adherence to preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus.
