National Testing Agency Announces Applications for SHRESHTA (NETS) 2024 (Opportunity for meritorious students from Scheduled Caste communities to get quality education in targeted areas)
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is inviting online applications for the National Entrance Test for Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA (NETS)) 2024.
SHRESHTA is a centrally funded scheme that provides quality education to meritorious Scheduled Caste (SC) students in reputed residential schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Eligibility
- Applicants must be SC students whose parental income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh per year.
- Students can apply for admission to Class 9 and Class 11.
Exam Pattern
- The National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS) will be conducted in offline mode for a duration of 180 minutes (3 hours).
- The exam will be bilingual (English and Hindi).
Important Dates
- Online Submission of Application Form: March 12, 2024 to April 4, 2024 (up to 5 PM)
- Correction in Application Form: April 6, 2024 to April 8, 2024 (up to 5 PM)
- Downloading of Admit Cards: May 12, 2024 (tentative) onwards
- Date of Examination: May 24, 2024
- Declaration of Result: Within 4 to 6 weeks after the exam

ਇਸ ਉਕਤ ਸਕੀਮ ਤਹਿਤ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ CBSE ਦੇ best residential ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੱਟ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ 10 Meritorious SC Boys & Girls ਨੂੰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ National Entrance Test ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ਨੂੰ, ਦਾਖ਼ਲਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

How students selected for SRESTHA?
ਇਸ ਸਕੀਮ ਤਹਿਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ National Entrance Test for SRESTHA (NETS) ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ National Testing Agency (NTA) ਰਾਹੀਂ conduct ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS):
i) The admission in schools would be based on the merit as obtained in the nation-wide merit test the "National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS)".
ii) The NETS would be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
iii) The test would be a computer-based test conducted all over the County.
iv) The selected students would be offered choices of the SHRESHTA schools.
v) For exercising this option, a web counselling system shall be developed by the NIC. In order to ensure that all the seats are filled, there may be multiple rounds of web-counseling.

ਹਰ ਸਾਲ 3000 ਹਜਾਰ ਨਵੇਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਸਕੀਮ ਤਹਿਤ ਵਧੀਆ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਖਰਚਾ ਹੇਠ ਲਿਖੇ ਸਾਰਈ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ bridge course ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਫੰਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

Selection of students under SRESTHA Scholarship
Eligibility for the SRESTHA Scholarship
i) Only SC students studying in the recognized schools - Private or Government or Local Body schools are eligible for the NETS.
ii) For admission in the Class 9, the student should have passed the Class 8 in the academic year immediately preceding the year of admission.
iii) For admission in the Class 11, the student should have passed the Class 10 in the academic year immediately preceding the year of admission.
iv) The parental income shall not be more than Rs. 2.5 lakhs per year.
v) The Caste and Income certificates shall be uploaded prior to the web counselling.
vi) Students applying under this Scheme should not be covered under Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme of the Department.
Procedure of admission in schools under SRESTHA Scholarship?
i) Once the option is exercised , the school would automatically, and without any further test, admit the student.
ii) The fee for the student covering the school fee (including tuition fees) and hostel fee (including mess charges) would be released directly to the schools by the Ministry within 30 days from the date of confirmation of admission on the IT portal.
iii) The school should provide hostel facilities for the students and provide necessary assistance for the students to settle down in the new environment.
iv) The school may designate one of the teachers as the Counsellor, who would resolve the difficulties faced if any, by the students.
v) The students admitted in Class 9 or 11, including the students admitted during the F.Y. 2021-22, shall automatically be funded for the next classes till they complete 12th class, subject to passing the exams of the previous class.
Scholarships for students under SRESTHA:
i) The scholarships for the students will cover the School Fee (including tuition fee) and Hostel Fee (including mess charges) subject to a maximum limits as given below:

11th: 1,25,000
12th : 1,35,000
ii) The scholarships will be released in one installment directly to the account of the schools through online process using the e-Anudaan portal of the Ministry.
iii) Release of the scholarship for the following years shall be subject to furnishing of Utilisation Certificate as per GFR provisions.
