In view of Punjab Assembly elections, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer S. Karuna Raju held a press conference here. He said that preparations for the elections have been completed and voting will start at 8 am on Sunday. As per the information, a total of 22827 complaints have been received. There are 24740 polling booths and 14684 locations as there are 4 to 6 polling booths in many places. There are 196 pink polling booths and 70 polling booths for Diwang voters. 2013 are sensitive. 171 checkpoints have also been set up. There are 3.9 lakh arm licenses. 3.79 lakh ammunition has been deposited. Flowers have been arranged for the new voters.
S. Karuna Raju said that full security would be provided to the candidates who are facing any security problem. Speaking about vaccination, S. Karuna Raju clarified that voting has nothing to do with vaccination. About Rs 500 crore worth of goods, including cash and Rs 35 crore worth of liquor, have been seized.
Regarding the Punjab elections, the Chief Electoral Officer said that security has been beefed up for the candidates in Gill Assembly constituency (Ludhiana) and Amritsar. He said that we got the details of two candidates from Patiala and Malerkotla. He had concealed the information of being a drinker and when the complaint was received, it was found out that action had been taken. Independent candidate Malerkotla also withheld information under which action has been taken.
