Punjab Imposes Strict Ban on Sale of Substandard Medicines: Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh

Chandigarh, October 27, 2025: The Punjab Government has announced a strict ban on the sale of substandard medicines across the state. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh stated that the action follows an official report from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), which found several medicines to be of poor quality.

Dr. Balbir Singh said, “The Punjab Government has imposed a strict ban on the sale of substandard medicines. Following a report from the CDSCO declaring these drugs to be of poor quality, the Health Department has ordered their immediate removal from the market.”

He added that health officials have been directed to conduct state-wide inspections to ensure that no banned or substandard drugs remain available for sale. Strict action will be taken against medical stores or distributors violating the ban.

The Health Minister further assured that the Punjab Government is committed to ensuring the availability of only safe, high-quality medicines to the public. He urged citizens to purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies and report any suspicious or poor-quality drugs to the authorities.

Officials from the Punjab Health Department have also begun identifying and seizing affected medicine batches from markets across the state. The government has warned pharmaceutical companies to maintain strict compliance with manufacturing standards, failing which, legal action will be initiated.

This move is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to protect public health and maintain transparency in the healthcare system.
