Government Staff and Accredited Journalists Can Now Vote by Postal Ballot

The staff members from six Punjab government departments and accredited journalists can now cast their votes via postal ballot. This is in accordance with a recent announcement by the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, Siben C.



The move aims to ensure that no one is disenfranchised from voting due to their duty on election day. The following departments are covered by the new ruling:

  • Local Bodies Department (Fire Services)
  • Transport Department (Driver, Conductor, Workshop Staff, Operation Staff and field staff deployed in district headquarters and depots)
  • BBMB (staff on deputation)
  • Health and Family Welfare Department (A) Food and Drug Administration working under the Commissionerate of the Department (B) Medical and Para-medical staff working on election day/duty
  • Home Affairs and Justice Department (Police officers, police personnel, Civil Defense and Home Guard)
  • Power Department (Staff deployed in generation units of State Power Corporation and State Transmission Corporation, Thermal Plants, Hydro Units (within or outside the state)

Officials who are working on polling day or are deployed on duty can avail of this facility.
