Punjab Schools of Eminence will Display Retired MiG-21 Fighter Jets

Chandigarh: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has approved the proposal of the Punjab Government to install retired MiG-21 fighter jets in five Schools of Eminence of the state. These jets will represent the glorious history of the Indian Air Force, and this initiative is expected to inspire students towards discipline and patriotism.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains informed that the MiG-21 fighter jets will be installed in Schools of Eminence located in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Nangal and Kharar. He said that the work process to install these jets will be completed soon, after which students will be able to see these aircraft from close range inside the school campus.

According to the standards of the Indian Air Force, only senior secondary level schools having at least 2,000 students are eligible to get the air frame for installation. The concerned schools will also be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of these fighter aircraft.

Minister Bains further added that the Punjab Government has completed official formalities, and the Indian Air Force and the state government will jointly organise ceremonial installation events. These events will motivate the students towards patriotism, discipline and excellence.

The Minister had written a formal letter last month to Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh proposing this idea. He mentioned in that letter that this will become a living tribute to the MiG-21 and will also help in developing honour, service and national pride values among the young generation.
