Punjab Gears Up for Rural Polls: Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections Announced for October
CHANDIGARH 31 July ( Jobsoftoday) : The Punjab Government has set the stage for major electoral activity in its rural areas, officially announcing that the general elections for the state's Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads will be conducted in October 2025 .
The decision was communicated through a formal letter from the Principal Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department to all Deputy Commissioners, who also serve as District Election Officers. The directive mandates that the entire election process must be concluded by October 5, 2025.
This announcement follows a recent and significant cabinet decision to dissolve 154 Panchayat Samitis and two Zila Parishads. To facilitate the fresh elections, the government has ordered the immediate finalization of the reorganization of blocks and the delimitation of wards. Authorities have been instructed to treat this preparatory work with the utmost urgency.
